Easter Weekend (Road) Bikepacking Suggestions?

    Hi all,

Seen as the missus is at a hen-do all Easter weekend, I thought it was the perfect time for some extending bonding with my steed!

My initial thought was to get the ferry from Dover-Dunkirk, and do some meandering around Belgium/NL, before heading back the same way or through Hook of Holland-Harwich.

The Ardennes also looks nice, but it’s perhaps a bit too far for 4 days.

I live in SE London, so I can get to Dover easy-ish-ly and I’ll have my soloist tent with me, so I can be flexible with where I stay. Also, I’ve only got 28mm Conti 4season tyres, so no gnarly gravel for me.

Does this sound reasonable? I would love to hear any other trip suggestions!

    Cheers

Well the world is literally your lobster Rodney. You can leave London in any direction and have a good ride. Traffic will of course be busy everywhere that weekend so take that into account.

…… or closer to home the Isle Of Wight …….

I’ll second that.  The island is a really cycle-friendly place, loads of quiet lanes and less than half- a- mile of dual carriageway.

The ferries are quick and cheap for cyclists and the place is littered with camp sites and coffee stops.

    You know it makes sense.

    Anglesey! Was just thinking

Anglesey! Was just thinking the same.

Lon Las Cymru is a beautiful 4-day (ish) ride that should be pretty accessible from London: Train to Holyhead, ride south, train back from Cardiff.

It is almost all roads, with some bits of track. Lots of signposts so you barely need a map. I did it on a road bike with 25mm tyres, which was absolutely fine (I was lucky with the weather though!)

I do think Belgium would be

I do think Belgium would be fun cause of the beer.. and the Netherlands..

France, Belgium, Netherlands back to Harwich and home for teatime đŸ™‚

I’d sack off the ferry and catch the chunnel at the moment though cause it’s nicer, faster and not owned by the evil capitalists at DP World.

Brittany Costal Path could be a nice idea.. or explore Jersey, Gurnsey or closer to home the Isle Of Wight.. what about a ride from London to Angelsey though Wales and get the train back.
