Di2 shifter upgrade

Hi all; I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade the 6870 Di2 shifters (hydraulic brakes) for the newer version (I think 8070?)?

I’m interested in being able to control my garmin with the shifters so I would like a version with the additional button. Is it as simple as switching just the shifters, or would there be other pieces that I would need?

    Thanks in advance.

Good info so far. I would like to add that you will need the Shimano Di2 inline E-Tube adapter (EW-WU111) and the Shimano DN110 battery to provide bluetooth/ANT+ support to control your Garmin via the buttons in the hoods.  This will also allow your Garmin to communicate with the Di2 system to see battery status, trim configuration (micro adjustments), shift settings (S1, S2, etc), and record all of the shifts that are performed during a ride, which you can review post ride via third party web apps.

    In summary, you will need:

    8070 levers

    EW-WU111 inline adapter

    DN1110 battery

    Hope this helps.

Very helpful indeed thanks again. I didn’t realise the garmin records all shifts etc for view post activity. Sounds interesting and will satisfy the geek in me!

I think you might have an issue with the hoses. The new levers need BH90. Check which your capliers need? BH59 at a guess. The diameter is different so you may well need new calipers too.

    Straight swap of the shifters

Straight swap of the shifters, but you will have to connect to e-tube and update your setup. If you buy them new you will probably need to update the firmware on the new shifters too. Simple to do. Setting up the secret buttons is also easy.
