Cheap and cheerful
Hi everyone,
Looking for a turbo road bike that also has some value as a reasonably light run around in dry weather. Not after anything top end obviously or with unnecessary weight and maintenance for this purpose, i.e. discs. I have a hydraulic disc brake bike that I want to keep for my main outdoor riding, mudguards fitted for winter months.
Looking at up to £400 ideally, likely second hand for this price. Around me the most popular adverts in these categories are Trek Domane, Specialised Allez (2017-2020 models) or Cannondale CAAD (older 2013-2016). The Domane and Allez are typically newer but with lower groupsets i.e. Claris but the CAAD's are potentially lighter/racier and often with Tiagra/105 but the Bb30 bottom bracket seems questionable depending on who you ask.
Any thoughts on these models or other recommendations?

Same. I also have gone through a bunch of their tyres, and only the extralight disappointed (torn sidewall) but the standards are fantastic....

Thank you both, will add the Defy to the list! And for the info on the Bottom Bracket.
Any thoughts on opting for either the newer frame or the older frame with a higher spec groupset for two otherwise similar bikes (condition/price etc.)?
Add the Giant Defy to your list. Loads of those around dirt cheap. Been running one on a turbo for two years and gets a daily hammering from various people in the family. Frame seems dead strong and comes out for road use in spring-summer. Also Sora equipped Caad 8s are usually BSA bottom brackets and not BB30.
+1 for a Defy - it was my first "proper" road bike so I may be biased but I loved it - very comfortable geometry, felt nippy, easy to maintain. 105 equipped for a few hundred on ebay...
I loved my Defy (2016 Defy Disc 1) but the frame cracked at the junction between seat tube and top tube, the frame was replaced under warranty but after a year's use that one cracked in the same place. The bike has just been rebuilt with as a Contend SL so I'm hoping for better luck with that one. Another local rider with a 2015 Defy has also had a frame crack at the same tube junction, I loved the design but perhaps it's a bit fragile in places ?
