Afib and Ablation

I was wondering if anyone out there has experience with atrial fibrillation and treatment by ablation? Did it work, how was the recovery, and did you notice any difference once your afib was dealt with?

I had a big crash in May, front puncture at 65 kph, and hit the deck hard enough to break three ribs. They also noticed arrhythmia and after recovering I did an effort test on a stationary bike hooked up to an ECG. This showed clear atrial fibrillation.

I don't really feel any symptoms, I figured that any lack of power was because I had gone into the red and "blown up". Now I know what it is, I can feel the palpitations sometimes if I really hunt for it. It does seem very linked to sleep. Not sure if the afib causes bad sleep, or is provoked by bad sleep but it goes hand in hand.

I would welcome any guidance on post ablation experience.

I was diagnosed in 2016.  I had a cardioversion followed by a hybrid ablation.  I was back om the bike after a fortnight. but as the AF was caused by overexercise, I didn't try to get back to the same level of fitness as before.  After four years I am stil without symptoms and taking no medication.  I am cycling as much as before but a little slower.

There are plenty of resources available for you to research.  There is the AF forum at https://healthunlocked.com/

A strava club https://www.strava.com/clubs/theheartofcycling

and my own lenghty blog https://afibandcycling.wordpress.com

Best of luck.

I had the same procedure about 5 years ago. Like you the symptoms were not dramatic but have now stopped completely. As far a recovery I was back on the bike within a week. It was the healing of the entry wounds in my legs that stopped me getting out sooner. But this was just my experience so do follow the advice of your doctor 3 Hope it all goes well for you!
