Hi,

Does anyone out there know anything about the cycle insurance from ETA? What’s a good price for a comprehensive bicycle insurance policy? I’m a British Cycling Ride member so I get some liability insurance, but no breakdown, personal accident, theft/vandalism cover, etc. Any advice is appreciated.

I have just come off my
I have just come off my cervelo S5 with only house insurance covering me for up to £1000. so i have had loads of spare time laying in bed searching the net for the cheapest and best insurance.
I have gone with Velosure, you will find them either in the back of cycling weekly or on the net .enquiries@velosure.co.uk or Tel;0800 083 3035
I asked for a discount which they say they can’t do but they did .
I have paid £331 to cover my bike with a value of £5000 and £250 cover for helmet and clothing.
Also includes breakdown cover.
They are going to be at the bike show at the NEC this weekend

I’ve bought ETA’s insurance.
I’ve bought ETA’s insurance. I believe it’s one of the cheapest on the UK market, providing you don’t wish to insure an expensive value of bike. I did a small comparison and prices can range from £20-60 per annum which generally includes liability up to £1m or £10m, personal accident up to £10000, and theft and damage to a low value bike, say £200-500. You can increase that value or add extra bikes, which makes the premium go up obviously.

For me, the attractions of ETA are that it includes all the above features, has low excesses and is meant to be valid in Europe (minus liability). Oh and their accident insurance covers you when you ride ANY bike, not just the one you insured – a feature many others lack. I’ve never had to use mine but I think it’s sensible to have, for liability alone, if you’re not already covered by British Cycling / CTC insurance.

Is it any good? It seems pretty cheap and cheerful, there are doubtless better and more comprehensive insurers out there but then they charge more. Priorities etc…
