Hi,

Fairly new to road cycling – avergaing about 20 miles on solo rides of between 60-90minutes but looking to push distances up. Unable to commit to times for group rides. Does anyone know of any decent routes in East Kent/Thanet?

Canterbury to
Canterbury to Folkestone/Dover on cycle route 17 is up and downy and a very pleasant ride. The hill from Newington/Peene onto the Downs from the A20 is very challenging as is the climb at Crundale from Wye (old route of 18)

Hi -thanks. Yeah looking at maps it seems that is the closest area with any real sort of gradient. Have managed to put together some routes around Thanet and surrounding villages out towards Canterbury back through to Sandwich but pretty flat!! I will try and head out that way.

Hi Richard, get yourself over the A2 and into the triangle formed by Canterbury – Ashford – Dover. It’s largely traffic free and there are some testing climbs for the rookie. It’s not the Yorkshire Dales or the Alps, but it’s a great place for a ride. My reguar route is in the Bodsham, Hastingleigh, Brabourne, Wye area a few miles from Ashford. The Devils Kneading Trough at Wye is a fairly undemanding climb, with a spectacular view at the top as a reward.
