Some early Ventoux are not 501, Where the sticker stays "direct brazing" is where the 501 sticker should be. http://www.mybikespot.com/photo_med.php?id=63

The serial number should look like this http://cyclespeugeot.com/images/serail_number_85-5.jpg

If you want to research it yourself. Start here http://cyclespeugeot.com/ModelID.html

HLE sticker does not belong to the bike. My other issue is the CAD sticker, that didn't arrive until the 90's

As an amateur Peugeophile, I haven't seen one with a speckled paintjob quite like that, but I happen to know that they did make a model called the Ventoux in 1986-88 (most years, their range just consists of numbered bikes like PX10 etc). That estimate seems to match some of the componentry I can see on it. The only thing throwing me off is the HLE tubing; I know Peugeot did use this for some bikes in the 80s but I thought it had been superseded by Reynolds 501 on Ventoux-level models.

Anyway I'm sure it still rides very well in 2013 which is all that matters really!

Turn it upside down and find a frame number, that'll help much more than any of those photo's 26

Try asking on the Cycles Peugeot FB group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/52516496672/

Or trawl through the catalogues on http://cyclespeugeot.com/index.html
