hello all..

Ok, so I’m gonna jump into buying some spangly new Carbon Tubulars … WOOHOO!!!

It shan’t leave me too much disposable moolah though (especially as I need to buy 3) so I’m looking at the following tyres:

I’m leaning towards the Tufo’s at the moment as I want black walls and I believe TUFO excel at Tubulars ..??

Anyone got any experience with any of these tyres

I had them checked out by a local wheelbuilder after that first initial ride and he was very impressed.. had initially been scared when I told him they were China ..

They’re built on lightweight BITEX hubs with SAPIM CX RAY spokes and they’re well worth the money ..

For anyone who may be interested, check out FARSPORTS, the site doesnae look like much but the service was just perfect.

Don’t forget that carbon rims
Don’t forget that carbon rims are very stiff as well – I’m sure you’ll get used to it.

Great value for the wheels. Make sure the spoke have been tensioned properly. Because the carbon is very stiff it’s often hard to see if the wheel hasnt been built properly.

I ended up with the

I ended up with the TUFO’s as money was getting tight …

My initial impression (first ride) was that the wheels were superb, don’t let anyone tell you Chinese carbon is no good, I brought a set of 24mm Carbon Tubs weighing in at 1008g for approx £350 shipped and the whole thing took 6 days door to door – VERY HAPPY!!

Anyway, the tyres .. First ride I put about 120psi into them and went out for approx 30 miles, they disappointed as they felt very hard – not giving the plush ride I expected.

However I took them out again yesterday evening at a slightly lower pressure (didnt gauge it) and they felt much better, although still not perfect by any stretch ..

They may get better as they soften up a little but I’ll definitely not be skimping on costs next time around …

For flat out racing nothing
For flat out racing nothing beats vittoria corsa evos – 40% off on wiggle atm. This, roll fast and you can pump them up to 200psi (which you probably wont need to do).

I use vittoria rally tubs for my main backup (if I puncture) and for training/winter, they are bloomin comfy, puncture resistant and the cream sidewall looks good too! Most importantly they are much cheaper.

Trigger Finger was getting
Trigger Finger was getting itchy so I’ve pulled ye olde trigger and gone with the TUFO’s , just got me three of them suckas!!

Lets hope I made the right choice, eh … 🙂
