Indexing issues

Not mine but my brothers sectuer running shimano 2300. It seems to fall out of adjustment very easily? I'm quite bike savvy but do run campag and have never had issues, when ever I see him I fettle it as he's a bit mechanically inept but after a couple of long rides it's stop indexing properly, Is this due to being Lower end group set or do I need to replc all cables and start looking at routing etc. ? He's running a triple up front FYI, any hints or experiences welcome! Thanks Mat
