In practice, of course, you're likely to seek out quieter roads when cycling or walking than driving, so the difference might be higher. But it's well established that the air inside cars (presumably also buses) is more polluted than the general environment, mostly because they're enclosed spaces.

The bigger point though is that we're all breathing toxic air, however we travel and whether we're outside, at home or at work.

It's a shame they didn't add on a bit about how much toxic air is produced by the three methods as well.

Still, I like the phrase "toxic box".

On the topic of school runs, there's a choice piece in the BristolPost: https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-news/knackered-bristol-mum-stuck-school-3399091

Quote:

Asked if she would consider letting more of her children walk to school, she pointed to recent crime issues.

She said: “I am always seeing things on Facebook saying to be on the lookout for this and that in the area.

"And furthermore, if the two-wheeled criminals stuck to their designated piece of tarmac, instead of breaching onto the motorist-funded roads network, this traffic problem you mention would be non-existent."
Now it is brooksby and HP or this lady who are atypical of bristol residents?

I suggest the lady's husband take them to school in his tank - I'm sure he would get throught the traffic easily.

You mean this one: ?

Sadly, real life can overtake satire.

(The tank was protesting about residents parking zones in Bristol by driving around the city centre and (presumably) ruining the road surface...).

Back to the point, I suspect (sadly) that this lady is more representative of the 'typical Bristolian' than any commenter on road.cc

When living in a past chapel on our southern range my mate used to commute 30km each way on road on bmx. 1
That's not the point.
Our city is fairly clean. We have a range that meets coast south. Range extends inland and then parallel with coast. About 20km width of plains. Maybe less.
The ocean to the south generally daily visits a clearing wind.
Hence topography is very generous with a daily attempt to replenish air with fresh from a salty breeze yet when commuting each day into the city: Clearly visible from descent of range was a city area (inclusive of suburbs) blanket of smog.
Far King looks bad yet we'd drop down beneath such knowing we were all wondering why we bothered to breathe toxic weather. I can't remember.. School, work. City stuff.
Stuffed, yeah.

I see someone asked on the newspaper site if his job was in septic tanks.

btw how did you get that image in there?

I can see you can upload a file and create a link, but even when I do a quote of the post, there is no clue in it as to embedding of an image.
