why rigid / wire bead tyres?

Other than being tight with money I cant think of any reason to buy wire bead tyres, and Im really surprised that theres still a big market for them. Am I missing something?

I bought some wire bead Giant tyres and also the kevlar folding variant in the same size as end stock from Rutland a few years ago, £4 for wire, £7 ofr folders. The wire ones go on the commute/utility bike, the folders go on the audax/tourer/winter racer. What's the point spending more money on the workhorse bike?

Never underestimate the tightfistedness of a cyclist born in the years of want.  My weekly sweeties were rationed (by the government, not a sugar-phobic mum) and I learned at an early age to waste nothing.  It never leaves you.
