Deda Superzero Carbon Bars - Too Large to Clamp

Hi,

I got myself some Deda Superzero carbon bars to replace my Superzero alloy bars. I (tried) to mount them to my Deda Superzero stem, but they were simply too large and deformed quite a lot (and creaked a lot!).

I followed the assembly instructions and used a torque wrench. I've installed carbon bars twice before (FSA and Canyon) and never had an issue.

The creaking noise happened at only 3Nm (Deda specs 4Nm) - and the bars were clearly deformed at only 2Nm.

I called Sigma Sports and they asked me to send the bars back for warranty. Anyone else had any issues with Deda bars being oversize at the clamp?

What is that coating on it where the stem connects?    I assume some kind of friction coating... painted on or stick on?

My Superzero carbon bars certainly don't have that on; as Nick T mentions, if it's significantly adding to the diameter, that'll likely be the issue.

Any resolution on the warranty replacement?

Probably too much clearcoat sprayed on, warranty, replace etc

That was my first thought.

Rather sad that they went snap - they are lovely bars!

They measured 31.82mm, way over the 31.7mm claimed!

The bar is too big for the stem faceplate to fit around without "biting"

Obvious warping at only 2Nm torque.
