Bike shops - North west

I'm in shopping mode at the moment and apart from Evans Cycles, there's a shortage of good quality browsing where I am (Chester), probably due to some extent because dribs and drabs of 2018 stock is still being shifted? Maybe I'm a bit late and am resigned to looking at 2019 offerings?

Anyway, if anyone can recommend a really good shop or shops within reasonable distance, say 50/60 miles, then it might just keep me busy at the weekend. Rain is forecast after all.

Thanks 1

I agree with davel. Twelve50 in Frodsham is definitely worth a visit.

You should also check out Eureka Cycles. The owners of the cycle cafe have a shop in Mollington out the back of chester. Keith is brilliant and theres not much he cant do for you!

Possibly, but until I have experience of it, it doesn't directly affect me. As these particular knobbers proudly parade in their club colours, I'm happy not buying from them, so cannot recommend them. All the others I have buying experience and find them OK.

Which reminds me, I should add Jack Parker in Burscough.

No I didn't, I wouldn't recommend them based on their club riders, more often than not, being muppets. I've ridden and chatted with a few of them, so they're not all bad, but the few that ride like pricks are. Therefore I have never spent money in the shop and can't put them forward.

Doesn't this apply to all (or most) club riders?

I've experienced impatient and arrogant behaviour by groups from my local club, the latest being a bunch of them coming up behind me with one of them shouting, 'slow down so we can get past'.

I'm not naming the club because some of them are OK and a couple are friends of mine.

If you head over to Alf Jones in Wrexham then you could drop in at Tweeks as they are only a few miles from Alfs

Despite my 'googling' I haven't heard of most of those - I didn't even realise The Edge had gone until the other day!

Geoff Smith in Bolton for an excellent small old school bike shop with a somewhat grumpy but very capable owner.

Is that the one on Tonge Moor Road?

I think the one you are thinking of is MK Cycles which has moved to Belmont.

Where to start?

Unfortunately we recently lost Edge in Chester which was my preferred shop, as mentioned there's an Evans and BikeFactory/Specialized.

Alf Jones in Gresford.

Trek in Liverpool.

Quinns in Liverpool

Bike Rooms in Manc for a laugh.

Cycle republic in Manc

Harry Hall Manc

Merlin a little further in Buckshaw

Winstanleys in Wigan

Ribble in Preston

Edge are still going in Lancaster, I think, but that's pushing the distance thing.

You're spoilt for choice in Chester. I've spent too long drooling in the Bike Factory and the Spesh Concept place.

If you need to wander, Twelve50 in Frodsham is a decent, friendly LBS. The Bike Rooms in Manchester is good for some high-end ogling.
