anyone have any experience of riding the BHF L2B in the front group.  Planning on going out at 6am, the earliest time, is it still mental?  Is there a big queue to get off at that time?

    Thanks!

    You are quite right kevvjj,

You are quite right kevvjj, it isn’t a race or a sportive.  That being said i wanted to do the charity event and avoid the ‘circus’ that alotronic describes.  My question was purely aimed at the initial starter congestion and how early i might need to get out of bed.  As it turned out I arrived early and it paid off, avoiding the intial crowd out of London and riding behind the motorbike escort for the entire duration.  Didn’t do it to get a good time (2:37 in the end), but you know what once there are open roads ahead why not test yourself (and enjoy the scenery).

Why on earth would you be

Why on earth would you be going for a time in L2B?! It’s a f*cking circus of skills, aspirations and abilities. I really enjoyed it *as a circus* but wouldn’t consider it at any kind of speed. I saw four people fall off the year I did it… best ride off the front and stay there or keep out of people’s way and ride a sensilble tour speed… don’t get me wrong, it’s a fun day, but best treated as such.

    I did the L2B a good number

I did the L2B a good number of years ago.  Many riders in the groups I rode in had clearly never ridden in a group before.  Which is fine – but makes riding in a fast group a fairly tense affair, requiring levels of concentration that aren’t fun to maintain for that distance, so I didn’t đŸ™‚

If you’re not going for a time, I’d stay out of the groups and just enjoy it.
