The watches are good (presumably the OP doesn't want to trade that in). I've had my Fenix 5X for over a year, and it has never missed a beat. Good maps too - it's enabled me to do way more adventurous trail runs, which is exactly what I bought it for.
So, you just want 'in-ride' stats, to avoid checking your wrist or roping your watch to your handlebars. Someone from my club got a wireless B'Twin one for peanuts - £10 or £20, same reasons as you're looking, seemed very happy with it.
I would recommend a Lezyne Enhanced Super GPS. Garmin, just stay away if you want to retain your sanity, its junk. Traded very expensive Edge 1000 for the Lezyne. Been very happy ever since. Wahoo is another great choice - Sagan even uses it!
I recently bought Garmin Vivoactive 3.
I've previously owned Garmin 510, 520, 1000, Vivoactive HR and currently have 820 and Vector pedals.
The VA3 will be the last Garmin product I ever buy.
Not only is it totally unfit as an HR monitor, when I got in touch with Garmin support they could not have been less helpful.
Do yourself a favour, buy a Wahoo.
Me too. I was bitten by an Edge Touring Plus and now consider myself Garmin averse and a confirmed Wahoo fan.
Same
Wouldnt buy another Garmin. No end of issues with my Edge510, wonky software, updates that cause more issues than they fix, random shut downs, ride data loss, poor bluetooth pairing, syncing issues.........never again
Sigma is your friend, under rated, great value and has a very good auto scan that starts up again up to 2 hours after standstill
Cool, which one?
Cateye Strada? That way your boss won't be able to follow you on Strava when you pull a sickie.
Yeah I use my watch for all the syncing as I say. Just after something that acts like a Speedo and mileometer
There are handlebar mounts available (or just some pipe insulation etc) to put your watch where it's easily seen without taking your hand off the bars. I use a vivoactive hr like that indoors as it can pair with speed/cadence sensors which my edge touring can't.
Can't you set up the Forerunner to show that info? I had an Edge 25, which is fine, but I found that I kept leaving it on the bars when I parked the bike. So worried about losing it, I sold it and bought a Vivoactive 3 watch, which is brilliant. You can set it up to display whatever trip data you want while you're riding - i'm surprised if a Forerunner can't do that.
Note that the Edge 20 syncs with Connect over a cable, whereas the Edge 25 can do it over Bluetooth, which is more convenient.
Seconded, the Edge 20 is a cracking little computer.
I'd spring a little more cash and get the Edge 25. Synchs with your phone over Bluetooth and has a few more features. I use mine to log my commute. Halfords has surprisingly good prices on Garmins.
