Hey

I have ordered a Cannondale CAAD12 in size 58 and really can’t wait to get my hands on it in a couple of weeks. I have been wiggling between a 56 and 58 and i think i made the right decision with 58, but i would just like to hear/read your opinion on it. I have a picture of me on a 56, but unfortunately not on a 58. I felt a little bit cramped up on the 56. I have previously owned a 56 GT grade, but those have a more relaxed geometry and comes with a long stock stem (13cm). Do you agree in me choosing 58 based on the picture of me on a 56?

I reckon you’ll be fine with the 58. I’m 2 inches taller than you with a similar inseam and fit the 58 fine. I had a bike fit, who reccomended that I go down a size for the stand over clearence and to get a bit lower at the front. At your height, you’d have barely any seatpost sticking out on the 60 and it’d be hard to get the bars low enough to be comfortable.

I have a CAAD 12 & being bang

I have a CAAD 12 & being bang on 6 feet tall I’m between sizes although I got mine in a sale & 58 was the only option so being a good price I took it.

I had to swap out the 44cm bars to 42cm as I didn’t get on with them at all & maybe the 175mm cranks are borderline for soem people (not for me) but apart from that I love it.

I would recommend having a

I would recommend having a professional fit. I am 179cm and my best bike was made-to-measure; it is 60cm with a 57cm top tube – this is an audax bike, so relatively upright, but very comfortable for very long days in succession in the saddle. I have 3 other bikes all sized roughly the same, but the millimetre differences and the slightly different angles make a great deal of difference to the ride quality, comfort and even speed, with the made-to-measure bike being streets ahead of the others.

Given your dimensions I suspect even a 58cm bike will be too small.

That position you are in on the photo looks like you are about to give Miguel Indurain a run for his money over the next fourteen minutes. In your cas ethe position you want to be in for hills is far more important….and indeed the position you want to be in for a quick amble between them.

I want to do 2,5-3 hour (60km’s plus) rides once a week and longer rides when i have the opportunity. I live in Oslo, Norway, the terrain around here is very “hilly” so it’s almost impossible to avoid quite a lot of short climbs and descents.

I’m not in bad shape by any means, but i want to start going faster and longer, but nothing more than day rides for now.

You don’t state what sort of riding you intend to do. I grabbed a Cannondale CAAD8 today with a similar profile because i live, and ride, on the flat plains of West Lancs…i love riding them and squeeze my 6’2″ frame on a 58 to get under the wind with a nice low front end.

In those conditions a 58 is fine with a low front end but for anything else (ie a mixture) i’d want a more upright position on a 60 with higher bars.

I am quite confident with 58, even more now after your replies. I want to be more stretched out than on the picture, and i have the flexibility to, so i think 58 will be perfect. Now i’ll just have to wait until the shops gets it. What do do in the mean time though…

I’m 5ft 11 and I ride a 58/59

I’m 5ft 11 and I ride a 58/59/61 and a 62cm (this is a traditional horizontal toptube bike) the 61cm is my main carbon ride, the 58 is a new gravel type bike with flat bars but still I have to have the stem higher up the steerer tube)

As I’m not racing I’d rather have the longer toptube and higher position that a longer headtube gives me so I don’t have to have a pointy uppy stem and/or one that is more than 100mm in length.

In the pic the frame is clearly at least one size too small, there’s loads of spacers and the stem is on an upward angle to make up for the too short headtube. You could easily have gone for a 60 but with a 120 stem you should be okay on the 58.

CAAD12 should be a lovely bike, hope it does you well.

I’m 187 with 84cm leg. 58 is the right size for me because of top tube length. Seat tube length, and even bar height is readily adjustable, but reach isn’t. You can alter exposed seat pin length by 15-20cm, and bar height by 50-80mm with no bother, but you’ve only got 30-40mm flexibility in stem length…

The 56 looks short to me, but I’ve seen people comfortable in that position.

Personally, I’d definitely go

If I was you, I’d definitely go for the 58 cm, that bike in the pic looks tiny under you. I’m 5′ 11″ with long arms and legs and my winter bike is a 58 cm with a 1 cm shorter stem (100 mm) and my summer bike is a 56 cm with a 1 cm longer stem (120 mm) ie at 5′ 11″, I should be on a 57 cm with a 110 mm stem.

I’m 185-186cm/6’1 with quite long legs. I have a 91cm inseam.
