Carrera Gryphon

    Good evening.

I managed to stack my Carrera Gryphon hybrid on sheet ice last Monday. The only real damage (appart from my left hip) was that the rear skewer got ground down by a few mm.

Can anyone furnish me with the length of skewer that I require? I called Halfords but they didn’t know…..even though they sold the Gryphon. On the plus side, the staff did say that when I did find out the correct length required, they would give me a spare for free from their spares bucket.

    Thanks. 🙂

Its probably fine buddy, just scratches to the end cap. If the wheel spins freely and securely then it’s fine.

yep I’ve a few that have been “trimmed”

    they are ok!

Agreed I should have thought of this. You won’t really take much off it in a crash, just cosmetic. Should still be plenty thread gripping.

    135mm if it’s a disc hub, I

135mm if it’s a disc hub, I think. But (x3) measure to be sure.

    Don’t racers with discs have

Don’t racers with discs have 135mm dropouts instead of 130mm?

As said, best to measure it to be sure.

    Almost invariably 130mm, take

Almost invariably 130mm, take the rear wheel off and take a ruler to the rear drop outs (the slots in the frame that the skewer fits into) to check.

Other bike shops are available… given that he didn’t know something so basic would incline me towards visiting your LBS. May be a touch more expensive, but worth it.
