Buying advice?

I am planning to buy my first bike in years (ignoring my trusty Brompton) for Sunday morning rides in the countryside, maybe some roads in not great condition and paved paths. My back isnt what it once was, so I need really an upright riding position. My budget is £1000, but I would stretch to £1500 if necessary. I'd like disc brakes. My LBS recommend the Trek Domane, but it looks to me like I'll need to spend nearer £1500 to get the Domane with disc brakes and a mid level groupset. Meanwhile, I've seen a great deal on an Orbea Avant with a full carbon frame and Ultegra groupset which I'm super-tempted by. So, does anyone have views on the riding position of the Domane vs the Avant, please?

If you are happy with alu frame what about Pinnacle Dolomite from Evans- 105 hydro discs for £1050. Or if you want more relaxed geometry Arkose- 105 model for £1150 (and swap in some road tyres)

If want a highish front end, carbon and disc brakes, don't discount the Giant Defy range.
