Respect to cyclists in the Matlock area

Having just ridden from Leicestershire up to Matlock, any cyclists in that area must be hard as nails. Not because of the hills, although they are pretty fierce, but because of the state of the roads. Jesus, they're rough! I thought my local roads were bad, but they're like silk in comparison. Can we have a whip round to buy some tarmac for the local council?
