as road.cc dont seem to be reporting on the major UCI women’s world tour round happening in the UK at the moment…thought Id start a thread on it đŸ™‚

2 stages in not going to peoples expectations of close bunch sprint finishes, Niewiadoma with a 1min46 lead looks strong for taking the overall win. Hannah Barnes now into 3rd. But most surprised Lizzie Deignan 8mins+ down on GC and basically already out of contention.

    thoughts anyone ?

Stage three in my home town

Stage three in my home town was awesome, my daughter and I handed out my local club’s flags to wave about, we saw Marianne Vos crash (which was brutal, Vos was really, really shook up by it she got on her bike and crossed the line and ended up having a fractured collarbone, we met Lizze Deignan who signed an autograph for her, then a policeman gave her his ‘route notepad’ and told her it’d be worth a million pounds if she held onto it (it’s very detailed, laminated and quite impressive BTW), then a boels doman mechanic gave her a bidon, then Trixie Worrack and Lisa Brennauer spent about ten mins with her getting an official team guide autographed for her from the team in the bus, giving her a canyon sram rapha cap and generally making her (and my weekend). Then we watched the highlights on TV and spotted all the flags we’d been handing out being waved. I’m just happy that my local roads were featured, there’s something quite nice about knowing just how hard a climb is or where someone could have pushed to breakaway for the line..

Great 5 days of racing ,
Great 5 days of racing , loved it, even the crit stage at the end, & loved Niewiadoma she was just always so excited & happy about winning and being in the green jersey. Definitely the GC contender teams totally missed the danger of the break & then got caught in not knowing if to stick or twist. Part of me,albeit with my Lizzie fangirl hat on,wonders how satisfied Boels Dolmans would be of their result, yes Marjerus finished 2nd, and put valiant effort to try take lead on stage 4, & won couple of jerseys…ok so not that bad then đŸ™‚ but just 1 stage win and they’ve lost the UCI wwt jersey lead as well, though you’d expect a stronger race in the Giro for them, it just feels bit down as the expectations were higher. Not sure what it might mean for nationals, that IOM TT course looks brutal, and with both Barnes sisters in very strong form, Dani King too, I’m not expecting Lizzie to solo away to a victory like she did that year in Lincoln

On stage 1 went to see the

On stage 1 went to see the 1st QOM (won by Cordon) the great thing was they were working just as hard as we/I do the bad thing was they were stonking up the hill at 10km/h faster (“It never gets easier you just go faster”).  Watched it on TV and then on Friday went to Leamington Spa to watch the finish so I’ve seen two stages which was a great result personally.

As I have ridden a lot of the roads on stages 1-3 (and a few on 4) it was great to see it.

I thought the racing was excellent, the TV coverage was a bit marginalised, actually I prefered it to the Dauphine as  its on roads/areas I know.

I agree letting Kasia Niewiadoma break away clearly was a disaster, but she was such a happy enthusiastic committed and determined winner that you couldn’t help but fully support her.

Apparently Lizzie was ill in the earlier stages, but it was not a race she was aiming for as she’s training for the Nationals on the IoM, hope that’s televised.

Great competition just wish TV had made more of it, but then I am a little biased!

    Have been watching snippets
Have been watching snippets on Eurosport as too far away to travel to see it. Some good racing, but while Niewiadoma’s break was impressive not sure what the peleton was thinking letting someone with her abilities get away. Great to see racing on UK roads and hope to see them racing further north one day.
