Worn rear drop out

    I have a 2013 Cube Litening with a worn rear drop out on the drive side. Its a carbon frame with what appears to be a aluminium insert, and its this insert that is worn. Does anyone have experience of this type of issue and is it possible to have the worn insert removed and replaced? Because its worn the rear wheel doesn’t fit correctley and the axel moves forward by about 5mm on the drive side meaning the tyre almost rubs the non drive side stay near the bottom bracket. I imagine that if left untreated the tyre will eventually rub on the frame!

    I had the same issue with a

    I had the same issue with a Planet X frame (I know, I don’t have a right to complain) I called them but they said tough luck it happens. I had to buy a new frame and then transplant my groupet. I did speak to my local bike shop who said they had this with a Specialized that they had sold, called Specialized on behalf of the customer and got another frameset within a week. 

    It might be worth contacting the seller.

    Nope, no way to replace the

    Nope, no way to replace the dropout on a carbon frame as it’s bonded into the chain and seat stays. Dropouts shouldn’t wear out as nothing should be moving against them; the marks on the inside face from clamping the axle ends are normal, but it does look like the shape of the dropout could be a bit off (might just be the photo though)

    What quick release skewers are you using? Cheap crappy ones corrode and then don’t produce a huge amount of clamping force even if you have to really wrestle the lever closed.

    The only easy solution I can think of is to try putting a washer in between the axle end to pack the space out a bit. Otherwise a machine shop might be able to repair the dropout somehow, but I wouldn’t hold out much hope there (it’d be pretty difficult to keep the dropouts lined up sufficiently well)

    The wheel can be held

    The wheel can be held straight whilst the QR is closed but as soon as pressure is applied to the pedal it pulls the wheel to one side, no matter how tight the QR is done up, this is because the the drop out has become worn. The worn part is aluminium, inserted into the carbon frame and what I’m trying to find out is, is this insert replaceable? It can been seen in the photo underneathe the screws which hold the mech hangar

    Hold the wheel straight whilst you tighten the quick release.
