Hey guys,
New to this forum, name’s Ammaar (I’m from Birmingham) but you can just call me Khan. I work at a post office local to my area and then hit the gym. On weekends its all about relaxing and gaming
Anyway, with Black Friday FINALLY HERE (and the surprisingly timely death of my mountain bike), I’m looking for a more robust Road Bike.
My requirements:
- Needs to be able to handle around 15 miles a day (I cycle to and from gym/work daily)
- Dropbar Handles
- Needs to be a solid build, I don’t mind spending a bit of £££ but I want my bike to last!
- Weight isn’t too much of a turn off, but the lower the better
Previously, I bought some generic mountain bike from Halfords. Can’t even begin to tell you how many problems I faced. After a while, it felt like I was spending more time on repairs than actually riding it…
My mate recommended his bike which is http://www.rouxbikes.co.uk/vercors-c9/ (doesn’t seem too bad, £500 off)
I trust his recommendation, PLUS I see that Road.cc have reviewed a few Roux Bikes in the past and have generally received positivity (with a few improvements to be made)
but I’m also looking at other things such as:
http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Cannondale-Synapse-Disc-105-5-2016-Road-Bike_832... (I’ve heard a lot about cannondale cycles plus it’s £300 off)
I’ve also heard a good amount of positives about “Specialized” cycles too
Can anyone tell me if I’m “steering” in the right direction?
PS, need to know ASAP as black Friday deals will probably end soon

Ditto on trying out a bike prior to purchase. "Needs to be a solid build" - Buy steel which has a smoother more compliant ride than 6061 alloy/alminum. Taken from roadcc article "Steel is (and always will be) a really good material for building bicycles frames, because it’s light, stiff and durable". http://road.cc/content/buyers-guide/194720-15-best-steel-road-bikes-and-...
Now you're talking my language. Apol's to all the Cannondale fans but I've never liked aluminium bikes.
Many (but not all) Black Friday offers are a bit of a wind-up. Take your time, shop around, and try before you buy.
Some very good advice from Johnny there, there's the potential to spend in haste and repent at leisure if you rush the decision. I like your username by the way . Oh, and what happened to your mountain bike?
I know you're feeling pressured to get a black Friday deal but buying the wrong bike without trying one in the flesh may mean you get something you're not happy with and could put you off.
Set aside the weekend hit the local bike shops and see what you like - you could always get still get something on line but perhaps more informed. Evans have a few deals on too and they'll let you test bikes out...
Just my tupence so feel free to ignore me.
