Quick update on this. Tweaking the cleat sorted the knee problem - it wasn't letting my heal turn in enough (slightly flat footed) which was causing the knee pain. The tendon sorted itself out In the meantime. Thanks for the advice everyone.
Thank you. Think the knee is definitely the cleat - I've boneheadedly placed it just ahead of the ball of my foot on the right shoe. Think getting it bang under the ball should fix the problem.
Will try small adjustments to the saddle and report back.
You might find tweaking the saddle sorts your knee problem too - though the common relationship is knee problems when the saddle is too low. If it's too high you'll be overreaching, which might explain the achilles pain. But as CXR says, a small adjustment can be all it needs, so if you're unsure of high/low, try a tweak in both directions.
Thanks both. The pedals have a decent float so hopefully that's fine. I'll give saddle adjustment a go.
yes, my first pedals had no float and I had the same - changed pedals and tweaked the adjustment so it's more forgiving and that solved the issue
I found for me, saddle height being too low gave me sore achilles. Raising my seat 5mm. Made me ride slightly toe down and stopped over stretching of my ankles
