Can’t believe my luck but it seems like I have 3 full days of cycling on my own.  By pure fluke I’ll be picking up a rental car from Geneva Airport  on the 20th. 

But where to go and what to do? 

any info on cycle hotels/cols/rides would be v appreciated.

thanks for the reply. I think I’m going to head to somewhere near Mageve as the lure of doing some of this years climbs of the Tour is calling. 

I’m a CAT 3 rider and want to do about 5/6 hours in the saddle a day. Say 2500-3500metres of climbing

Any ideas?

3 days is cool and there is a lot to do in the area. Out of geneva go lake side by car towards valais. Down there you will find some of the famous passes that cannot be missed. L
My not say how much climbing you want to/can do and i could suggest better. Also mention how many hours per day you want to spend on the bike. What your level?

Sorry Andrew – we drive from Brighton to Pescara every summer and I have been looking at “small” diversions on the way to do some iconic climbs.  The Stelvio is top of the list and wouldn’t be too much out of our way, in the context of a 20 hour drive each way!  I haven’t run this one past the missus yet…

Good idea that. I might even have a go at the 17km TT there. Would be great to say I’ve done that. Hopefully its not a busy road

The 2016 TdF is visiting that area. why not have a look at the stage maps and try to do one/ break one down to manageable chunks.

Watching the tour later in July would be awesome when you have a reference to what the guys are climbing.

I did Geneva to Milan . Was great. Went over Simplon pass via brig I think . One of the best rides I done. Loved the Italian side too and the route around Geneva.

The Col de la Faucille

The Col de la Faucille through Gex and up through the Jura is beautiful – i would suggest pootling on to the Lac de Joux.  If you fancy a quick blast then you might want to look at the Saleve – the so called ‘balcony’ of Geneva

Wow- I’m jealous.  you can’t

Wow- I’m jealous.  you can’t go too far wrong in that area.  I’ve stayed in Morzine with http://www.simply-morzine.co.uk/ who looked after us well, good food and bike storage at the chalet des montagnes.  From there you have the climb to Avoriaz (col de la joux verte) which is really good, and the trip round to Samoens and back over the col de joux plane.  This years tour finishes in Morzine (before the Paris finale) with the descent from the col de la joux plane- it is awesome!  

 

Alpe d’Huez is also doable, lots to choose from.
