New Neutrons just fitted but grinding when pedals pushed

After much debate i finally bought some campagnolo Neutrons today, treated them to a new cassette (105 11-28T as per previous wheel). just fitted cassette and put wheels on but it seems to be really rough and almost grinding when turning the pedals.  Tried adjusting gears but no difference, dont really want to ride on them through fear of causing some damage.

Could it be that i have done something wrong when installing the cassette?

Its the sound a Campag wheel makes as it tries to forcibly eject a Shi*mano cassette! 3

If your cassette and chain were really worn, then there's a chance your old chain isn't meshing nicely with the new cassette. I know what you mean about the "grinding" - it feels like your bearings are made of gravel.

You can get a chain wear tool, such as this X-Tools widget (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/x-tools-chain-wear-indicator/rp-prod1...) for very little cost. It will tell you if the chain needs replaced.

Other than that, it's very difficult to put the cassette on incorrectly - you might have missed the spacer between wheel and cassette (if you've got a 10-speed cassette) in which case the gears wouldn't work well, but I don't think that would give a 'grinding' feel.
