Dura Ace C24's - 1375g @ £578

How about superstar Elite 24s? A hundred quid gets a 1500g wheelset right now, or you could go for any of the sturdier or flashier builds.

Swissstop or Kool Stop pads may help reduce rim wear.
I have always been a fan of fulcrum wheels, they are the ones I would go with, very well made at a good price. Very good wheels for multi terrain riding.
