Choices: Narrowed down after ‘extensive online research’

Canyon Endurace CF 8.0 (no test ride available) €1599

    https://www.canyon.com/en-ie/road/endurace/2016/endurace-cf-8-0.html

Canyon Endurace CF 7.0 SL (no test ride available) $1699

    https://www.canyon.com/en-ie/road/endurace/2016/endurace-cf-7-0-sl.html

Giant Defy Advanced 2 (can test ride) €1749

    http://www.giant-cork.ie/en-ie/bikes/model/defy.advanced.2/20116/79364/#specifications

I know it’s kind of subjective.., but looking for owners of the above bikes to give advice/sway me in a particular direction. Tell me the pros and cons of your personal experiences of each bike. If you have tried these particular bikes and think there are better spec/choices for that money feel free to advise me…

I like Canyon for their overall look, spec/value (especially as the CF 8.0 is €300 cheaper than the advertised UK £ price on the website)..downside is obviously no test ride and  also service/warranty claims and wait for build/availability is about 4-5 weeks, etc.

Giant – I like the ‘idea’ of discs, but the weight penalty in comparison to the Canyons might sway it in favour of the Canyons. This one I can test ride, but it’s a heck of a distance to go to try a bike from where I am (bogtrottin’ Midlands of Eire)  – majority of riding I do is flat surrounds, but I do travel elsewhere for varied terrain cycling and would like to do more hills (low weight bike vs me being a 70kg 160cm (powerless) rotund person with aspirations of shedding 5+ kg over the winter).

Usual solo trips for me are about 80 – 100 kms (billy no mates…so don’t really care as to what anyone else sees me as)

However I do like the looks and specs of a few aero type bikes in the price range…probably more for aesthetics than my actual ability as a rider…leisure/pleasure and no real aspirations to become a racer (gear /no idea..lol)

    So fire away…whilst I osmose…

    Thanks

Well the 2015 model sized ‘s’

Well the 2015 model sized ‘s’ is no longer available from s-tec shop online (€1299), but I have been offered a 2016 model at €1499 + €70 shipping…and as I am in the market for a bike now, I think the Giant wins out for availability AND price…looks like I’ll be getting the Giant…and 7.9kg with mech discs sounds OK to me…

I ride the Defy Advanced 2

I ride the Defy Advanced 2 and it’s bloomin’ awesome (obviously)! Forget minor weight differences between it and other brands. If you own a current bike, the lightness will amaze you anyway. I’m currently using my steel ‘winter’ bike and it must be 5 or 6 kg heavier but I still love riding it.

    I haven’t ridden either, but
I haven’t ridden either, but have just built up a TCR frame which seems very nice only ridden once though so far.

FWIW I went GIANT partly for their warranty terms / customer service in the event of difficulty (supposed to be good) plus access to LBS specialist support if I needed it.

Obviously you won’t get that with Canyon, though I’ve heard their frames are exceptionally good value and quality.

GIANT are one of only a handful of manufacturers who make their own frames and are right at the top of the tree in terms of quality and VFM. For me, probably the cheapest way to get a pro-level bike frame (got 40% off the outgoing year’s model)

Thanks for the heads up on

Thanks for the heads up on that website, SuperPython59…saves a bit of cash (if I decide on the Giant) and it’s the LTD edition…just a bit woried on the weight being about 1.5kg more on the Giant…but then I am trying to lose more than that from myself…lol

Canyon website appears to be down this morning, despite their Black Friday sales being on…guess it’s probably crashed…(10% off according to the email I received…but wasn’t very specific what was included in that discount…)
