New do-it-all bike

Hey folks,

I have approval from the sensible one (wife!) for a new winter bike.  I'm thinking of something versatile, capable of fast road rides, commuting, a bit of off-road, with disc brakes, eyelets etc.  I'm trying to not go over about £550.  Best deal I've seen so far is the 2015 Genesis Cda 10 for £550 new, down from I believe £699.  Alu, Claris group, discs.  Any thoughts/suggestions/comments?

Also, the Cda 10 appears to come up a bit big in sizing - have other people found they can spec a size smaller on Genesis?

I have a 2015 CdF with a 52 cm frame, I'm 5' 9" and 29.5" inseam.

It fits me very well, although my size 8s sometimes foul the front 'guard.
