I have cycled once in high winds, was nearly sucked under a lorry then blown into a ditch. Never again, I did 54 miles this morning from the comfort of my conservatory whilst it was minus 1 outside. Was quite cool even in the conservatory for the first 20 mins, toasty after that
Shrewsbury. It was vicious, a couple of gusts nearly had me across the road. I resorted to the pavement in a couple of places as I couldn't ride in a straight line. The local Met Office station at Shawbury recorded gusts of ~60 mph.
Went out on Sunday pm, and was expecting grief from fierce cross winds, but it was fine. Didn't even notice it heading into the wind. May try tomorrow, should blow me home.
Whereabouts are you Simon?
Riding home from work at 6pm tonight was one of the scariest experiences I've ever had on a bike.
NOT recommended.
The wind has dropped to a more manageable 25 mph now, but the missus has decided we have to go to the shops. :'( Might be able to whiz round and get an hour on the bike before dark
I'm going to wait until this afternoon when it dies down a bit and do a short spin locally - been eating to many cakes this week so have to do something!
In Surrey they were forecasting stong winds this morning, but that seems to have changed to coastal areas now.
One look out the window this morning and I'm going on the turbo instead
If that's accurate then it won't be safe to ride. Why risk it.
