Well winter is upon us and I’ve started the base miles. What for yet I’m not so sure!!
It’s time for me to decide what to focus on for next season whether that be competitive or a personal challenge to make all this riding in the wet worthwhile.
Any other team members got any suggestions?
What are your plans and how are you training?

Simon, that sounds awesome!
Simon, that sounds awesome! LOL
They’ve cancelled my local closed circuit cat4 crits, and we’re a bit thin on the ground where I am to get racing now. couple of open road races, but one is ‘brutal’ with three reps of edge hill in it (too hilly for me) and the other I was looking at entering is cat 2/3/4… all the skinny kids gave me a funny look and told me it was really, really fast, so that’s out now too.
There is I think a month of cat 4 crits at Mallory park a little later in the season, which I’m going try and get to, but it’s mid week evenings, and about 1.5hrs away so not too hopeful I’ll get many of them in.
Looks like I are mostly armchair racing this year, again đŸ™‚

Time trialled on and off for ten years and did alright but fancy trying something different so thought I’d give the 4th cats a go. Closed circuit mostly so the missus and kids can come and watch.
A training/nutrition plan is being drawn up by Dave Smith (he who made Dave Atkinson a contender) so I’ve got some decent/optomistic hopes đŸ™‚

Good one Pete!!! I managed to
Good one Pete!!! I managed to finish my first race last week. My current stats are as follows-
Race 1- got to 4 laps out after spending all race way out the back, then got lapped out.
Race 2- Raced for 20 mins then decided I really did have a chest infection and had better stop before I keeled over.
Race 3- got to 5 laps out after being on my own in the wind for all but the first 2 laps, decided I’d be lapped out on the next lap anyway so I might as well go and have a nice warm bath.
Race 4 – Got all the way round in the pack, got caught out when they slowed down and ended up overtaking them, then struggled for 3 laps to latch back on after I hit the headwind and they breezed back past me laughing and stayed head down at the back of the pack trying to save energy for the rest of the race. Just about made it to the last corner before they all took off for their sprints and I tried my best to stand up on the pedals for appearances sake.
So Stu, you decided to start racing too eh?

Sounds more like a recap of a Saturday night out on the sauce than a bike ride!!!!!

I’ve signed up for three
I’ve signed up for three events so far.
Etape du Tour on the 10th of July; Etape Loch Ness in April and Etape Caledonia in May. I’ve registered for the Ride London ballot again, but there’s a sportive in Scotland that day for if I’m not successful.
Looking at dozens more, Skye, Applecross and Ullapool ones in particular. And I’ve started my accreditation process for track cycling in the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, need to crack on with step 2 đŸ™‚

I’m not a planner, so I’m quite pleased with this lot fixed, booked and pass stamped for so far….
28th Feb: The Rawlinson Bracket – Warwickshire (fun or competitive not sure yet)
March/April (TBC): 2x Victoria Park Criteriums – Warwickshire (stay with the pack)
24th April: The Uber 200 – Warwickshire (just get round it)
5th June: Tour Of Cambridgeshire GranFondo (qualify British Masters – hey you’ve gotta have goals)
2nd July: la Marmotte – France somewhere south (just get over the bumps)

I’d like to have a go on the velodrome again too, Newport isn’t too far away from me but that Severn Bridge charge does tend to grate a bit!
I’ve entered a couple of events so far:
The Uber200, 200km in length and 2674m of climbing so should be fun

and
The Lapierre Tour of the Black Country, 100km with 20km of cobbles, gravel and bridleways finishing in a velodrome.

Training starts tomorrow, possibly!!!!

I’ll be doing the Dunwich Dynamo again, perhaps I’ll do it solo or find some faster friends and set a bit of a time this year, the last two years I bimbled. I’d like to do either the Revolve24 again perhaps in a larger team seeing as they have the depth to go for harder efforts and maybe more chance to win, or I’d like to do the Cyclone24 at Newport velodrome, mainly because its indoors lol. I also plan on getting my race license for some cat 4 closed circuit racing at Lea Valley and Redbridge, maybe Gravesend. I’d also like to finish my accreditation for Lea Valley Velodrome. I’m on stage 3 out of 4 so far and this is where it gets a bit harder. Smashing it round the banking and feeling the G’s is awesome fun.

TT is pretty much done for me
Hi Ian,
TT is pretty much done for me to be fair, I achieved quite a bit over the last few years and to take it to the next level would require so much more structured training, power meters and being really anal about my cda or weather a certain skinsuit is going to cost me 0.003 watts đŸ˜‰
Revolve24 would be cool again, in a team for me though – maybe we’ll see if we can get a road.cc team for both the track and the cyclocross event.
I like the idea of London to Brighton, I’ve never done a night ride before.
I do want to race though and it’s easier if the kids can come and watch, makes it more a family event. Maybe crits or something.

Hey Stu,
Hey Stu,My main goal for next year is attempting the Revolve24 solo. As much I enjoyed your company, I think attempting something like that solo would be awesome.
Other plans include cycling in 3 different counties I havent done before as well as attempting my fastest completion of the London to Brighton Night ride.
I would love to sit here and say training is going well but a little game called Fallout 4 has just been released… My poor Bike is taking a back seat whilist I play this game (been waiting years for it to come out).
Have you got any goals? You tempted to partake in a bit of TT? I think I recall you mentioning you used to for a while?
