I have an endura convert (arms zip off) softshell. Very good. Not quite as good construction wise as the gore phantom, which my wife has, but it does have a napoleon pocket which I find very useful. It was just the job for a sportive at the weekend in ~7C. Started arms on, finished arms off
Thanks all for the other options to consider. I'll take a look.
Climb and Conquer is *really* warm
I use Gore and Endura for the Winter and both are very good - Endura especially as you don't pay for the name as much
There are Pearl Izumi AmFibs & Thermal tights on Sport Pursuit at the moment, good prices.
If buying Gore, the Gore-Tex Active Shell is likely your best bet as also waterproof... though windstopper will breathe better.
I tend to use a gore zenon light jacket over a merino layer. Never too hot because both are breathable, nice and windproof too.
