Hi,

At some point in the next few weeks I’ll likely end up switching across to my old bike, now designated my winter steed. I recall reading some bits on the web about storing a Di2 bike for a few months without it being used.

Is there anything in particular that should be done to look after a Di2 system over the winter? I’d rather not be dismantling things if I don’t have too (had a hell of a time getting the seatpost battery to stay connected). My bikes live outside so would be subject to freezing temperatures.

I guess it could vary from disconnecting everything and storing the battery in the house over the winter, to doing nothing other than being sure to take it for a spin around the block every couple of weeks.

What do others do? Nothing special and don’t worry about it?

Hmm, when I got the bike back in June it was shipped (10+ days with the courier) with the battery detached (and barely charged). All I’ve done since is charge it once and connect the battery.

I did some googling about Li-ion batteries in the hot/cold. TLDR is the batteries may be less efficient at temperatures <0, but it will make no difference to the lifetime of the battery itself. Temperatures >40 are a different matter, just as well that’s not really a problem in the UK 🙂

So basically just leave it in the bike storage and give it the occasional spin around the block over winter. Do not fully charge the battery before long periods of inactivity.

If you are worried and will defo not use the bike in the winter then just pull the seatpost and store indoors. Remember that your quick shift and trim settings will be lost though. I continue to use mine as it gets a deep clean then sits on the turbo for the cold months.

Got a loft? Could be an option for winter storage, just as cold but without as much residual moisture.
