Mudguards for a Merida Ride Disc 7000

I've got a Merida Ride Disc 7000 and I want to put fixed mudguards on it over 28mm tires. The mudguards mounts are on the back, not the side, of the seat stays and forks. I bought some SKS Chromoplastics online, but they have plastic mounts that are designed to mount on the side and won't work on my bike. I spoke to the Australian distributor who advised me to buy some Axiom 'guards and bend the fixings with pliers. Surely this can't be the best solution?
