Been riding for three years starting with a commuter hybrid before making the move to a Cannondale Supersix Evo, 105 2014 which is pretty much as bought other than change of seat and an upgrade from the tiagra rear cassette and break callipers.
I’d always thought I’d work my way through to upgrade all components over time starting with the wheels similar to Dura Ace C24/C35, Fulcrum Zero, upgrade groupset to 11 speed Ultegra (as dura ace won’t be necessary for my weekend rides/sportives)…

Looking for advice on whether to spend the cost of the bike again on upgrades or keep the cash and put towards a higher end bike in another 12-18 months to then keep the S6 Evo for winter/training?

If the frame is right for you
If the frame is right for you ( I find this is the thing that seals the deal personally) I’d upgrade the components, you might find the frameset on the new purchase isn’t quite as nice, then you are wee-ing in the wind.

I have the 2012 super six 105
I have the 2012 super six 105 (not Evo) and love it. I’ve even started racing on it and it’s perfect for the job at hand. You have to ask yourself, what benefits from a new frame are you looking for and is saving 200 grams the best way to spend 1500 or quid. So far I’ve upgraded my wheels (a nice wide set with 25mm tyres gives you as smooth a ride as in any bike) and a power meter. Not that it really matters, but since adding a power meter the average speed on my training rides has increased by about 2kph since I now know how much and when to apply effort. Not sure you’d really see those benefits from an upgraded bike. More importantly though, it helps me train in the right power zones to race cries, although I still rubbish.

Having said that, if you want a more bling bike, just get one. Life is too short

What a lovely bike the
What a lovely bike the Cannondale. Why change? Just upgrade as items wear out. It weighs 8.5kg complete, you will pay many thousands extra to shed a kilo or so, which wont make you faster.

I would buy a cheap hack for winter or if you still have the hybrid use that

Just seen the 2016 Cannondale Range, if I was wanting a new bike from them I would get the CAAD12 disc version hydraulic brakes with Di2

I would stick with what you
I would stick with what you have and save up for another bike. It’s not as if you are slumming it with your Cannondale. I have Ultegra on my ‘best’ bike and I wouldn’t want to take it out as a winter bike.
