Giant defy advanced or propel??

I've got my heart set on a giant defy advanced 1 or 2. Stock is low so waiting for re delivery, and my pay rise at work which is due anytime now.
But browsing the web this morning I've seen the giant propel advanced 1 or 2 for the same money as the defy.
Now I don't race and don't intend to, I commute a few times a week to work and do plenty of general riding. Would the propel be uncomfortable and overkill for what I do?

It looks amazing and fast standing still!

They are very different bikes. If you are going to completely buy into aero bikes and get the clothes, helmet, shoes etc... then the Propel is a great choice. If you are looking for long days in the saddle and commuting then an endurance bike is a lot more practical. Big difference between a 23mm tires and 28mm that you would use on the Defy. Price is always a consideration but fit should be the first factor in any purchase. Make sure the Propel fits before you commit.

All you Defy lot are missing out! I have the Propel Advanced 1, it is plenty comfortable for 107 miles of the Dartmoor Classic yesterday and 230 miles of Everesting a month ago! I commute on mine too.
Maybe if I had ridden a Defy on those two rides I would think otherwise, but the Propel is a fantastic piece of kit. It looks amazing, and the red and white paint job is so much nicer than all these stealth black bikes.
I spent months choosing my bike, aero bikes were not on the radar for ages. I couldn't decide on spec, so ending up putting pictures on my desktop screen saver at work, and they all look so similar. I was in the Giant shop looking at a deal on the previous year's Defy when I saw the Propel, and that was me sold. The test ride only convinced me further.

I have the 2015 Defy Advanced 1 and a friend, a 2014 Propel Advanced 3. The propel is designed primarily for speed, where the Defy is designed primarily for comfort. Horses for courses. My friend can go faster than me, but finds his wrist hurt after 30-miles or so, from the more aggressive riding position. So, when I cruise past him, the story of the Hare and the Tortoise comes to mind 3

I love my Defy Advanced 1 and wouldn't change it for any other bike; other than a Defy Advanced Pro 4 The review, if it helps, is here; http://reviewmybike.com/bike/GIANT/giant-defy-advanced-1/13673

I have the defy advanced pro 2 and it is a wonderful bike. I was infatuated with the propel because they are sexy bikes! But the defy suited me more and looks sweet. I commute 15 miles 5 times a week and do 50+ miles on the weekend family dependant! But i have no complaints about comfort in the bike.

I have a propel and it is very fast and actually pretty comfortable.
Haven't ridden a defy but can't speak highly enough about the propel.

I agree, the Propel looks really cool, however, it sounds to me like the Defy would better suit what you would be using it for.

"I've got my heart set on a giant defy advanced 1 or 2"

There's your answer.

Be patient, the Defy will be worth the wait. 4
