Any Road.cc members attempting The Long One this weekend in Sussex?

I’ll be there with my socks and a Rubix cube tattoo. If you see me please make sure to say hello. My name is Ian.

Good luck to all attempting the epic 125 mile with 7500ft+ of climbs.

    Hi Pete,

    Hi Pete,

That UBER200 sounds brilliant, I will have to look that one up for next year! Shame I didn’t hear about it earlier.

Your recommendation regarding the good choice of roads is duly noted, it makes a massive difference to the enjoyment of the ride. You get to enjoy the company of those around you and take in the views of the new locations, with out having to worry about pot-holls and slide-outs.

Well done on your achievement, legs turning to jelly is definitely a sign you have pushed yourself!! I did the London 2 Brighton ride one year on a Fixie, my god did my legs hurt after that! I’m scared of my Fixie now!!! Never again.

    Kudos indeed Mr iUpham
    Kudos indeed Mr iUpham !
There aren’t many events about that tough, I recently completed the UBER200, which was 132miles and 9000+ feet of climbs through the rolling Warwickshire / Gloucestershire countryside (although I must have pressed the wrong button at 120miles and missed the relativity flat roll in).

I was however most struck with the fantastic route planned for us, although I’m a ‘local’ to that ride, I’d not been on half of the lanes/roads, surfaces were good all round (that I remember). The organiser did a truly great job in comparison to other organised rides I’ve done (notably Malvern Hatter last year had miles of AWFUL road surfaces!)

It was the ‘1st’ UBER200 and frankly I couldn’t walk upstairs for two days following…

It’s a shame I’ve not seen anything about it in the ‘press’, but I guess being on the same weekend as the Fred didn’t help.
Still I can say I’ve been there, done that and now have the t-shirt đŸ˜‰

    Hi Dave,

I completed all 125 miles & 9000 feet of climbing!
    https://www.strava.com/activities/329294059

It was hard work but overall a good challenge.

Although I was very surprised at how poorly the event was run. I participated in a UK Cycling Event last year which was really good, fantastic even, but this one..

    – Loose gravel & sand traps for the first 40 miles.
    – I saw 2 x people come off the road due to lack of signage
    – Feed Stations were not as well stocked as previous events I have participated in.
    – Mechanics didn’t even have a rag to clean the sand out of my chain.. Bless the dinner ladies and their kitchen roll! With out them I am sure the sand/oil mix would have ground my cassette to dust!

It was odd. It was almost like the event had been arranged last minute. I am pretty sure who ever chose the route did so on a MTB/CX bike rather than a road bike.

But as is always the way with events like these it was the fellow cyclists that made the event enjoyable. Lots of very interesting people from all different backgrounds, bought together by the love of cycling. That’s the real reason why I take part in events like this.

Do you have any cycling adventures planned this year?
