Looks like finally Tacx have allowed control of (some of) their trainers by 3rd party vendors. Currently listed are TrainerRoad, Zwift, Kinomap and Bkool.

At the moment it is only the Smart trainers that can be ‘upgraded’ for ANT+ FE-C support, there is the following statement regarding other hardware on the forum here :

Q2: I have an iGenius trainer. Can I also connect to other apps
A: This is not possible. The difference in the Smart trainers is hardware related (different chipset). Tacx knows about the install base and will see if there is a way to change the hardware for a reasonable price. This will take some months to work it out.

Q3: I have another Bushido then the Smart. Can I update
A: the T1980 cannot be updated in any kind. The T2790 can be upgrade to a Smart unit, but this means you need to replace the complete electronic part for an Smart unit.

Q4. I have an older Vortex unit (white model). Can I make my model Smart
A: this is not possible. A complete brake replacement is needed to make it a smart model

The iGenius comment is rather odd taken at face-value, but at least this is a start.

Would have loved a Kickr if I could have afforded it and rather liked the Bkool software, just not the trainer. I have a Tacx Genius so slightly gutted on this even though strictly speaking i’m not actually losing anything – but it would have been great to run it through Zwift and TR.

France and Mallorca for me this week 🙂
