    Hi.

Pretty new to biking, my steed was stolen this week and I have a choice of 4 bikes, looking for comments. I ride a 26 mile round commute 3/4 days and a longer weekend ride at the moment.

    Allez
    Defy 5
    Barracuda Corvus 3

All 16 speed Claris, but Barracuda has carbon fork. All 500 quid.

    BUT at £330 –

BTwin Triban 500 SE, 24 speed microshift and carbon. Very cheap with great reviews.

Thanks in advance! By the way, I can’t ride the bikes as Wheelies are replacing them, but I am thinking of trying to get cash equivalent from them. As I just got the bike it was underinsured on home contents to a max of £350. Obviously I’ll add some cash in if needed.

Nothing I can recommend but enjoy your new bike when it comes. It’s great getting a new bike!

I am a total newbie, but was drawn to the Triban 500 SE too, for its specs for price and good reviews. For similar money to the DEFY 5 (£500 from my LBS)the Alur 700 (£599) is worth a look.

As I said, I’m totally new, so pinch of salt advised

How did your bike get stolen?
How did your bike get stolen?

Any of those bikes you mentioned will get stolen if you don’t lock up properly outside.

If you commute and lock your bike outside instead in the office then probably go for some second hand rusty.

Anyway I will chose the Defy 5.

I can recommend the Defy 5 as that’s what I ride. As my first road bike for years I find it more than adequate. The only thing that I have upgraded so far are the wheels, after some toe rag rear ended me buckling the wheel, he thought it was a funny thing to have done. I have found that I am often faster than quite a lot of others on much more expensive steads, going to show it’s the engine that counts. 😀
