Ah well, if you said this was to be a second bike and the Caad10 is already maxed out, I would have told you to touch the shiny.
Nice!
Sounds like you have a sweet bike, especially that the current 105 is excellent.
I got the Team Carbon last year for about 750 with a couple of similar sounding discounts - now running really really nicely into summer with 11 speed 105 and some Shimano C24s: I think I've spent 1300 in total and more than happy given I couldn't afford the chunk in one go.
Happy riding!
Thank you folks for the advice.
My Caad10 is 6700 Ultegra 10sp 2011 and still looks like new from being used in the summer only and a separate winter bike taking the battering, which I have sold now. I have some nice racing wheels for the Caad. Needs a set of carbon bars and a stem to take some weight off.
I bought the Boardman team carbon road today for £680.
It's my new winter and commuting to work bike. Could transfer the old Caad running gear, sell the Tiagra/105 Boardman running gear and upgrade to 11 spd for my Caad when funds allow/missus not looking.
No building time till the weekend! £680?!
I couldn't resist the price of a carbon Boardman!
Sure it's no Madone or Tarmac but it's good for the price.
How old/beaten up is the Caad?
A nice new shiny bike is always good, but Boardman Team strikes me as a good bike, but not an upgrade on a Caad10, unless said bike is on its last legs.
As others have said, maxed out Caad10 is a better prospect on paper.
I bought a second hand CX off Gumtree for £450 as a winter bike.
If you still want a CX I would wait and see if any others come available.
Sorry didn't realise you were refering to the Team Carbon CX.
I would suggest upgrading to Caad.
If you need a second bike then great but your Dale will still be better. If you really want to get something from Halfords maybe get a cheaper round town bike from Halfords with the discount? Or a folder for the future?
Or if you want to upgrade your Dale right now you could always get a heavily discounted pair of wheels like Shamals or even go the whole hog and trick it out with half price Ultegra if it isn't already. The discounts will match the percentages off you're getting at Halfords so you'll know you're not missing out on anything!
^^^ What he said ^^^^
Use the £680 to max out the CAAD
Upgrade your CAAD 10 - it's one of the best alloy frames available versus what is a perfectly good but not outstanding carbon frame.
£680 would get you some deep section carbon wheels, or a whole new groupset and change. Or swanky carbon finishing kit. And then you'd have a seriously good bike with some great kit on it instead of an average bike you will want to spend even more money on.
IMHO of course.![16](https://cdn.road.cc/sites/all/modules/contrib/smiley/packs/smilies/16.gif)
I bought one on the bike to work scheme and I love it. Upgrade the stock wheels (I went with Campagnola Zondas) and it's a fantastic bike for the price. I don't have any road bikes to compare it to but it feels incredibly stiff and light on the climbs.
For next Summer I'll probably upgrade it to Ultegra rather than giving in to the temptation of a shiny new bike. That's how much I like it!
