ANTHONY MAYNARD SPORTIVE

pLEASE FORWARD TO ANYONE WHO MAY BE INTRESTED:

Anthony Maynard Sportive 2009 – Reading CC Honours a Lost Friend

The inaugural Anthony Maynard Sportive, promoted by Reading Cycling Club, will provide a challenging ride through the Berkshire Downs on Sunday July 19th 2009.

“This will be a special event, a fitting cycling tribute to Anthony” said Reading CC’s Chairman Adrian Lawson. He continued, “Anthony was a very talented rider and sportives were one of his greatest loves. The event is being organised by his clubmates to the highest standards and will keep Anthony’s memory alive in the best possible way.”

Anthony, aged 25, tragically lost his life in July 2008 when struck by a vehicle whilst cycling in an evening club ride. He was an extremely popular member of Reading CC and is sorely missed by his friends at the cycling club. To reflect this and to celebrate Anthony’s love of cycling, this new sportive is to be held in his honour.

The sportive route will take in the climbs and descents of the Berkshire Downs that he enjoyed on club runs with Reading CC. Starting from Theale, looping westward taking in the Valley of the Racehorse and the Vale of the White Horse, riders will have the option of 105km or 190km routes. The shorter course will include 1700 metres of ascent while the 20 climbs of the 190km route will provide a testing 2900 metres of ascent.

The Anthony Maynard Sportive is being run on a not for profit basis with proceeds being distributed to charities that reflect Anthony’s interests. Event sponsorship to date includes mechanical support from CycleZone, organic nutrition from Meridian Foods, Rocks Cordials and True Food Co-op along with print & design from Conservatree.

More details can be found at www.anthonymaynardsportive.org where online entry will be available from 1 January 2009.
