Giro Apeckx Shoes – foot pain from cleat bolts?

I’ve just picked up a pair of these shoes and after two short commutes and one 50km ride I’m already noticing quite localised discomfort on the outside of my foot, just behind the ball.

This area seems to correspond to the rear and outermost cleat bolt, however I’m already using the extra short bolts supplied by Giro so I don’t believe it’s the bolt.

Likewise I don’t believe the cleat could be deforming the sole of the shoe unless Giro have got their calculations very wrong!

Has anyone experienced anything like this with Giro or other road shoes? Is this what people mean by ‘hotspots’?

    Thanks
