Hi,
My wife got a place in Ride London, but I didn’t. Since she is amazing, she straight away offered me her place. 8>
Has anyone used someone else’s place before? Any difficulties, e.g., women’s entry numbers are in pink and mens’ are in blue etc.?
Cheers

Well you can pick up on an entry on behalf of someone else with their written permission and a copy of their photo id. There are no further checks afterwards as you just roll up at the appointed start time and ride.
Personally I think the organisers should do more for the disappointed as a large number of people drop out on the day/no show, especially last yearAnonymous
As said, the rules state
As said, the rules state non-transferable and you need ID to pick up the pack, but there are no checks at the park. With 25000 riders starting it would be unfeasible (and realistically, what would the marshals do – rip your number off and call the police to stop you riding?).If I remember correctly the ‘race’ number for your jersey and your bike number both have ICE information (that you write on yourself).
The reason they say non-transferable is to stop people selling their entry, and quite rightly so, but I personally don’t see the harm in swaps between partners or close friends.

Ha, I think she might prefer to swap just before the Mall 😉Anyway, seems the rules are clear, but it is not a SAS mission to subvert them.
I think places should be transferable – they may say they need everyone’s details in case of emergency, but 1) these should be written on the back of the event number on the day in one (as has been the case for every running event I’ve ebtered 2) not allowing transfers is more likely to lead to riders, riding under someone else’s name without the correct emergency details.
Cheers!

In the spirit of matrimonial
In the spirit of matrimonial compromise why don’t you ride half and your wife ride half? Meet at her at the top of Box Hill with some cable ties, safety pins and a pair of scissors and then give your wife something to brag about at the next club ride…..bikemadjo
my partner tried to give me
my partner tried to give me her space last year and they won’t officially let you do it. What i would suggest is she goes and picks up the number and them you can ride the event, the number colour reflects which start gate you go from not gender so you should be fine.good luck!

You need to collect ‘her’
You need to collect ‘her’ started pack the day before with some id [shouldn’t be a problem, just a favour for her, right.] After that your number is just a number.YOU MUST BRING
PHOTOGRAPHIC IDENTIFICATION
WITH YOU TO COLLECT YOUR
RIDER DOCUMENTS. THE
ACCEPTANCE SLIP SENT TO YOU
IN JANUARY IS NOT VALID.
If the reverse of your registration
form features a charity survey
questionnaire, please complete
this section before you arrive
at Registration.
While preferring you to register
in person, we recognise that
in some cases this may be
impossible, so you can nominate
someone to collect your
rider documents for you.
The person you nominate must
have the following: a letter
written and signed by you,
authorising that person – by
name – to collect your rider
documents. You must also
sign your registration form
before handing it to them
AND PROVIDE THEM WITH
A CLEAR PHOTOCOPY OF
YOUR DRIVING LICENCE OR
PASSPORT SHOWING YOUR
NAME AND SIGNATURE.
The person collecting your rider
documents should have suitable
identification with them.
Failure to comply with these
instructions may lead to your
rider documents not being
issued. Please note: an
individual can only pick up
one set of rider documents in
addition to their own.crazy-legs
Places are strictly
Places are strictly non-transferable, just because of the sheer hassle of trying to coordinate it all.On the face of it, fairly petty and I imagine a few people think “oh it’ll be alright…”
However, with that many people you can see why they don’t want to be changing names, numbers, all the personal info etc and keeping track of it all and there’s always the people that just take the piss with it.Best case is you end up with a fast person taking a slow person’s slot and starting at 8am then trying to force their way through.
Worst case, you end up with someone in hospital due to a crash and the emergency services thinking it’s Mr A instead of Mr B.CXR94Di2

Don’t the rules state non transferable. You have to take Identification to get your number.Do they bend the rules for husband wife?

I think it is not something
I think it is not something they allow, either formally or informally, so that’s why I was wondering if anyone has tried it and if there were difficulties or consequencesatgni
Could try asking Ride London.

Ah yes, I remember a couple
Ah yes, I remember a couple who swapped in Edinburgh marathon and were then banned:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/edinburgh_and_east/8120637.stmTo be honest, I don’t think there is much risk of me threatening the women’s top times anyway.

I don’t think they really
I don’t think they really care. I can’t remember there being different colours for the sexes. There would be outcry.Ultimately they just want bums on saddles. The only issue is whether you threaten the women’s fastest times. You might find an embarrassing situation where you have to explain yourself then.
