In my quest for a new bike I am now faced with the decision of brake choice. I know disc brakes are the new thing but I am coming down on the side of standard brakes. Why? One of the main reasons is that aesthetically I prefer the look of them, I like their clean lines compared to look of disc brakes. I have always found them adequate, I know disc brakes are meant to have more stopping power but:
– I’m not going off road
– I’m not a racer or time trialist, I commute every day and do occasional sportive type rides. Next year I am looking at doing longer 100+ mile rides
– I won’t be coming down Mount Ventoux at 50 mph

One worry is will they be future proof?. With the move to disc brakes will I still be able to replace them if required in 5 or 10 years time?
