Creating a ringtone for iTunes is easy if you have a Mac, just use Garageband. If not, just follow the instructions here
Apparently one can convert an mp3 into Apple ringtone format (M4R).

I have them now, still cant use them as a ringtone though as I forgot Apple dont let you select anything apart from the shonky ringtones an iPhone comes with or you can buy others from them

I could set it as an alarm though, that gave me quite a surprise at 6:30 this morning
