    Hi guys,
Looking for gearing help, I’m putting together a new bike and upgrading the groupset, however I’ve started pulling out my hair a bit… please can anyone help?

    I’m upgrading to a Ultegra groupset (6700), running a 11-28 rear cassette on a compact 50:34t
Question: Should I run a short cage or a medium cage on the rear mech ?

    thanks in advance

Why would you need a 32 if
Why would you need a 32 if you’re running a compact? Not quite sure why you’d need a 28 with a compact, but there we go =))

Or get a medium cage if you
Or get a medium cage if you may be thinking of using a 32t eg on alpine climbs. Negligible weight difference…..

I have Dura Ace but have an Ultegra long cage for a 32 Ultegra block I will use for the E’tape.

    shimano’s own tech blurb says
shimano’s own tech blurb says 28t max so you’re good to go with
    the better looking SS 🙂

    You have a 33 tooth
You have a 33 tooth difference (28-11+50-34). Ultegra 6700 short cage mech has a capacity of 34 teeth (cf. Wiggle’s spec page).

Short cage looks nicer and has enough capacity, so go with that.
