Now we’re in the mid ’80s, clearly in Hull with kids on Raleigh Burners, where perhaps  “Think for a minute” is in the charts?

There’s something going on, a change is taking place
Children smiling in the street have gone without a trace
This street used to be full, it used to make me smile
But now it seems that everyone is walking single-file

I dislike the technique of monochromed background as is pretty hackneyed, but it gives emphasis to the subjects, and when several works are taken together generate that drab atmosphere of late afternoons in November, invariably a Sunday in my experience.  His skies become monotonous after seeing a few of his works and it is only in snow scenes that there is an proper treatment of light and shadow.

The colour figures convey a childhood joy, made all the poignent (and why I thought I’d do a thread on them) by the loss of this today.  His rendition of the faces in the wall poster is better than that of the children.
