HS2 – a good news bike story

    Had a surprise on the ride today. Riding from Long Itchington to Offchurch we came on an HS2 road closure. We plodded on, looking askance at our ride leader, contemplating the 5 mile detour and got to the actual works on the Fosse Way, and there’s the magic sign:

    ROAD CLOSED EXCEPT FOR CYCLISTS

    spirits lifted, we carried on and we found indeed the road was closed and impassible, but to the left was a purpose built temporary cycle lane, nice and smooth with a supervised crossing across the works access.

    Amazing!

    It’s even more amazing when
    It’s even more amazing when you know the amount of unnecessary closures we’ve had to deal with, and one mate got a broken collar bone from hitting ballast dropped on the road from their tunnelling site on the Welsh Road.
