Turbo problem

Forgive me for reposting this query which I included on my "Monte Carlo or Bust" thread but just to get it visible amongst all the free boxing threads...my turbo, having been perfect for 18 months, has decided to pack up right in the middle of my 1026kms charity ride. Not a huge problem as a mate is lending me his to finish the ride but if anyone has a fix I'd love to know it: the trainer is still going round but is incredibly heavy, takes all my effort to get it turning, to the extent that my power meter was showing 550 W and that was showing as 35 W on Zwift! I've updated all the firmware and tried it with multiple programs, it's doing the same with all of them and indeed even when it's not connected to anything. I've tried recalibrating it multiple times but each time I try to do a spindown calibration the app flashes up "Attempt failed, try again" after a couple of seconds. It's a JetBlack WhisperDrive Smart, if anyone has any experience of them.

Thanks, that sounds logical.

Thanks, that sounds logical. Fortunately JetBlack give a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser so hopefully can get it sorted after Christmas – to be honest once I’ve finished the 1026kms I’m not going to be in any rush to get back on a trainer!

Since it uses a partly electromagnetic flywheel it sounds like the magnets are stuck in fully on mode. Contact the retailer….even if it’s out of warranty you may get somewhere for such a pricey piece of kit.
