    Given the number of times I
    Given the number of times I have had “read the Highway Code!” shouted at me when riding two abreast or taking prime position, I am afraid I don’t think some motorists have ever had a firm grip of its contents. Now I suspect we will have a situation where some know what’s in it but choose to ignore it.

    I am tempted to start buying copies of the new one and posting it through the window of shouty motorists though.

    “I have – feel free to take a refresher!” *Thonk*

    The misleading headline seems
    The misleading headline seems now to have become a meme. Yahoo News popped up on my newsfeed with a version of the same thing, with the same headline suggesting the HC was the problem rather than the conflict of someone relying on the new code someone who is unaware that there are to be changes (like my good lady apparently).

    So now the Nigel’s of this world have there starting point pre-packaged, that the new hierarchy is dangerous – which in a way they are right because the idea of the typical motorist giving priority to anything that might delay their journey is too adventurous a concept for 21st century society

    The ironic thing is that by publishing click bait headlines about the lack of awareness they’re helping to increase awareness far more than a nice sensible headline would.

    My favourite comment in the Telegraph was “How am I meant to see a cyclist behind me?!”.

    I do wonder what he thinks the shiny things hanging on the ceiling and doors (wings?!) are for.

    Exactly – they know exactly what they are doing with that headline. They have tried to spin into something else entirely and the comments suggest many DM readers are only too willing to see it that way. Irresponsible.

    I agree, that was my first take, and on reading what the AA said in depth I think it’s being pretty reasonable and pragmatic

    Completely misleading headline.  The headline suggests the AA are saying that the changes are confusing and dangerous; when the AA are clear that the changes are to make roads safer, but the confusion and danger may be caused by lack of awareness.
