FEET-Can you fit a CD in your shoes? VERY wide shoes needed but who makes them..

    My 30 year old Diadora’s died last year and I haven’t cycled since as I cannot find size 12-13 cycle shoes anywhere, feet are 5 inches wide. Big but not that big. I’d buy flat or SPD, don’t care just want to play on my bike. By the way the Diadora’s never really fitted.

    Anyone with a similar grip of planet earth thats found shoes please let me know

    +1 for Lake! I use the MX175

    +1 for Lake! I use the MX175 – really comfortable for me with wide front foot and narrow rear foot. If they have a double Boa version that will fit even better.

    Northwave shoes are pretty wide….certainly the widest I’ve found.

    I have wide feet and bunions.

    I have wide feet and bunions. I take a 45 in vivobarefoot and usually a shimano 46 wide to accomodate width but the shimano’s  were too long. I chanced one of the new knitted Rapha in a 45 and a bit of a revelation even with custom moulded insoles. Foot bed is just wide enough and the relative softness of the knitted upper was stetchy and comfortable enough that i could ride all day without any foot discomfort. YMMV but may be worth a try if you can

    I don’t have big feet, only 44’s, but I have found it difficult to get wide shoes to fit. The only ones that I’ve found wide enough for me in laced MTB shoes are from Northwave. All others were too tight.

    This should be a ‘pinned thread’. Us Bigfoots are a sizeable minority. Walking boots and safety boots are very problematic for me as well.

    I don’t think that I’ll ever go down the clipless route, but good luck with your quest.

    I can recommend Sidi mega https://www.sidi.com/en/news/ciclismo/sidi-mega-performance-and-extra-comfort – I picked up a pair at almost half price last year as I think the big online shops often have trouble shifting the “odd” sizes…

    I have pretty wide feet and yet with the megas have to crank the boa dials almost all the way in, they are so big.  Very comfortable, done a double century this year with no problems at all.  And they look good too of course…

    I’ve just remembered I think I’ve tried on Spuik shoes once when in Spain and although they didn’t quite fit myself its a brand I didn’t know so worth adding to anyone’s search list.

    I have wide feet with a square toe box shape. The toe box shape has meant lake, shimano and s works shoes didn’t work. The cheapest specialised shoes had a more square and straighter shape so did work even without the wide fitting. Worth a go if your feet sound like mine.

    I’d have loved to try on some bonts but no London shops had any to try.

    I got a pair of these on eBay. For me the size was a bit too generous, and judging by the crease marks in the uppers, the previous owner did as well. Decent shoes in general though.

    eBay has worked very well for shoes for me – prices are not high if you are happy with older models and you can give things an extended trial, reselling if they are not right. I doubled my money on the RO88Ws (to £20!) just by giving them a good clean.

    Lake. They do Wide and Extra Wide, although they don’t really do the extra wide in any of the cheap versions. They are pretty generous to start with though. I found the the (cheaper) wide cx176 were also wide in the heel, so there was no heel grip – you may fare better. Upgraded to the cx332, and they are lovely. Mouldable, so you get a perfect fit.

    thanks for the replies and info its much appreciated. I’m in Fife so Edinburgh is no distance. Manufacturers are slowly realising feet are foot and not shoe shaped so toes crossed. If, when I do find anything I’ll be sure to post here

    Pat, where are you based?  Worth a bit of effort and maybe money for shoes that fit.

    various brands do wide

    various brands do wide fitting shoes, one that springs to mind is ‘Lake’ – but I think you’ll be paying £££ for them (if you hold on to them for 30 years though anything is a bargain!!)

    There’s a highly rated bike fitter (bike fit james) who often appears on the Francis Cade youtube channel (a fairly popular UK cycling channel). His shop, ‘Bicycle’ in Richmond, London sells them and he caters for all sorts of shapes and sizes
